The 30/90 Rule: Your Results Are a Report Card From 90 Days Ago

June 02, 20264 min read

I want to ask you something honest.

What do your business results look like right now?

Not what you wish they looked like. What they actually look like. Sales, engagement, list growth, momentum. Where are you right now?

Now I want you to do something that might feel a little uncomfortable. Look back 90 days. Not 30. Not yesterday. Ninety days.

What were you doing?

Were you showing up consistently? Posting regularly? Writing your goal every morning? Making your offer every day? Growing your list one person at a time?

Or were you in a "I'll really get serious soon" season?

Because here is what I learned from Lisa Jacobs of Marketing Creativity, and I have never forgotten it: the results you are experiencing this month are a direct reflection of what you were doing 90 days ago. Not last week. 90 days ago.

That is the 30/90 rule. And it is both hard to hear and the most hopeful thing I know about building a business.

The Hard Truth First

A slow month is almost never about what you did yesterday.

It is about what you were or were not doing three months ago. The seeds you planted or did not plant. The content you posted or skipped. The offers you made or stayed quiet about. The sessions you showed up for or put off until conditions were better.

Lisa Jacobs ran an experiment on her own business to prove it. She spent one month showing up everywhere at five times her normal output. More content, more outreach, more visibility. And 90 days later, that one month of extra effort showed up clearly in her results.

The good news is that you cannot go back and change what you were doing 90 days ago. But you can change what you do today.

The Hopeful Flip

This is the part I want you to really sit with.

90 days is not that long.

It is one season. It is the time between now and late summer. It is 90 mornings of writing your goal. 90 days of showing up to cowork. 90 days of posting something that serves your audience. 90 days of making your offer. 90 days of getting one person to your email list.

What would 90 days of that look like for your business?

Not perfect 90 days. Not every single day without missing once. Just mostly showing up, mostly planting seeds, mostly tending what you are growing.

That garden does not stay bare for long.

Lisa Jacobs showed up harder for one month and felt the results three months later. What happens if you show up consistently for the full 90?

What 90 Days Actually Builds

Let me get specific about what the 30/90 rule looks like inside the 2 Tomato Method.

90 days of writing your goal every morning. Your brain has spent three months filtering every decision, every opportunity, and every distraction through one clear direction. That is not nothing. That is a completely different way of moving through your days.

90 days of Tomato 1. Ninety days of growing your garden, tending your people, and harvesting what you've grown every single day. Your audience has seen you show up consistently for a full season. They know you are not going anywhere. That is when trust starts converting.

90 days of Tomato 2. Ninety days of the blog posts, the sales pages, the podcast pitches, the long-game work. You have built something real. The foundation is there.

90 days of making your offer every day. That is 90 mentions. 90 invitations. 90 chances for someone to say yes.

90 days of adding one person to your email list. That is 90 new people who chose to hear from you. Not everyone. The right ones.

None of this requires a perfect week. It requires a consistent season.

Your Honest Reflection Question

Here is what I want to leave you with.

Do not look at your results right now and feel bad about them. Just get curious. Ask yourself: what was I doing 90 days ago? What seeds did I plant? What did I skip?

And then ask the more important question.

What do I want my results to look like 90 days from now?

Because whatever that answer is, start today. Not next Monday. Not after the kids are out of school. Not when things slow down. Today.

Plant the seed this morning. Do your two tomatoes. Show up.

In 90 days, you will have a very different answer to the question "what do your results look like right now?"
